Feeling Stuck? Here’s How I Went from Overwhelmed to Empowered with One Simple Strategy

Do you ever feel like you’re taking two steps forward and five steps back? That was me for years. I was constantly overwhelmed and juggling multiple roles—mum, employee, partner—and struggling to find balance. It wasn’t until I implemented one simple strategy that everything started to shift.

Let me give you some context.

The Monday Struggle

Every Monday, I found myself in the exact same position as the week before:

No structure. No plan. No reflection

It was like Groundhog Day—week after week, I was setting myself up for failure. I had good intentions, of course, but without any clear focus or direction, I was spinning my wheels. Balancing my time between work, family, and my own personal goals felt impossible, and I was constantly overwhelmed.

I’d schedule three workout sessions but only commit to one. I’d buy books I was excited to read, but they’d gather dust on the shelf. I’d fill my calendar with social events, like boozy nights out, that didn’t align with my goals. The result? I felt completely out of control.

A Wake-Up Call

I knew I had to make a change—not just for myself but for my family too. If I wanted to show up as the best version of me, I needed a strategy that worked. Something that would help me balance my commitments and align my actions with my values.

“I needed to get clear on what really mattered to me: my family, my health, my fitness, and my personal growth.”

Introducing the “Eric Ordit” Strategy

Fast forward to January 2024, and I started using a simple yet powerful weekly technique that has since transformed the way I approach my life. It’s called the Eric Ordit strategy, and trust me, if you’re feeling overwhelmed by balancing family, work, and personal goals, it will be a game-changer.

So, what’s the Eric Ordit strategy?

Each week, I write down what I’m going to:

Eliminate

Reduce

Increase

Create

You might be thinking, “Alex, what does that even mean?” Let me break it down for you.

How It Works

Let’s take a look at what I wrote down for last week, so you can get a clearer picture:

Eliminate: Alcohol (for the week)

Reduce: Screen time

Increase: Reading time

Create: More time for myself

By writing down these categories, I’m essentially setting my intentions for the week. I identify what no longer serves me, what I want more of in my life, and what I need to make space for. This clarity has been crucial to helping me prioritize my time and energy.

The Power of Reflection

But it doesn’t stop there. At the end of each week, I also take time to reflect on my experiences. I ask myself:

What was my biggest win this week?

What was my biggest challenge?

What belief am I going to leave behind this week?

What new belief do I need to create moving into next week?

I make sure to complete this reflection by 2 PM on Sunday, so I can prepare myself mentally and emotionally for the week ahead.

The Key to Long-Term Success

The best part about this strategy is that it helps you build habits that are aligned with your core values. Each week, I’m reminded of what truly matters—fitness, family, and personal growth—and I can make sure these priorities are reflected in my daily life.

I’m also gaining a clearer understanding of what’s serving me and what’s holding me back. The more I reflect and adjust, the more I feel empowered to eliminate habits and beliefs that no longer serve me, while cultivating those that will move me closer to my goals.

Looking Ahead

If you stick to this strategy, I promise you’ll start seeing changes in yourself by 2026. Small, consistent steps will lead to big transformations. The clarity, structure, and reflection I now incorporate into my life have been key in helping me take control of my time and energy—and in turn, show up as the best version of myself.

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, give this strategy a try. It’s simple, powerful, and most importantly—it works.
